Tips To Keep Your Dog Healthy In Arizona

Here are some Dos & Do Nots for keeping your dogs safe and happy during Arizonas springtime and summer heat. Maybe you just need a refresher course on keeping your dogs happy and healthy as the summer arrives. By keeping an eye on your dogs well-being, you can make spring and summer an awesome season for you and your dog.
A good diet, regular exercise and grooming, and routine vet visits can keep your dog in great shape. Keeping a pets health in check, and current on shots and medications, is a crucial step to keeping a pet happy outdoors.
Another important factor that Arizona dog owners should consider is the proper protection of a pets feet. One of the best things that you can do for your dog in an Arizona summer is to keep their paws protected. When summer heat is at its highest, take your dogs on walks in the shade or in grass so that hot pavement does not scorch their paws.
If you have to let your dog out, be sure to offer shade and lots of water. Never leave your dog outdoors in the heat for longer than 30 minutes at a time, if at all. In fact, during times of extreme heat, it is best to limit outside time as much as you can, and to monitor your dogs, even when they are out only briefly.
If it is too hot out, and you need to give your dog a little exercise, a great time is in the early morning hours, or late at night, after the sun has set and there is lots of shade. Taking your dog on walks at these times of day also gives the sidewalks a chance to cool off somewhat, making for that much more convenient walking. When it is warm or cool, your dog needs some extra assistance in order to remain safe and comfortable.

With temperatures reaching up to 120F during the summer, it is critical for your pet to have access to water and shade, or be inside all of the time. Temperatures inside of a parked vehicle, even if there is sunshade, or it is parked in the garage, are extremely dangerous and could result in deadly consequences; always think about whether or not your pet actually needs to be inside of the parked vehicle during these sizzling summer months.
Your vehicle could hit temperatures around 200F, and your pet might not make it. Not only may your dogs skin burn from the heat in summer, they can become dehydrated and even experience heatstroke. Your dogs can become very dehydrated in an Arizona summer, even when not outside in the hottest parts of the day.
How to Make Sure Your Dog Survives Summer Heat If you think that you are getting heat stroke, simply imagine what it is like for your furry-covered pets. Your apartment in Acero North Valley has A/C to keep your dog cool and comfortable.

If you have a backyard pool or would like to bring your dog out to a lake, here are some essential tips for water safety that will make sure your pet is safely on and around the water this summer.
You should never allow your dogs to get close to a pool unless you are outside with them. Make sure you start small, and that you are in the water with your dog at all times while he is swimming, and never force him to get into the water if he does not want to. Take the dog or cat on regular walks, play fetch with them, let them run through a dog park, and make sure that they are staying active.
The easiest fix is keeping your dogs indoors or letting them run around the yard on grass. Keeping dogs and other pets away from tall grasses and brush can prevent their curiosity from getting the best of them.
We all want to make sure our pets have a happy life, and there is so much to enjoy in spending a summer outside with your dogs. We know that leaving the dog home while the sun is out is tough, but sometimes that is the best you can do living in north Phoenix. Check the different weather apps to find out what temperatures are expected to be during the day before heading out, and as we are sure you know by now, NEVER, NEVER leave your dog in your vehicle.
Always carry cool, fresh water with you on walks, on visits to dog parks, on car rides, as well as in and around your home. Bring extra drinking water to you and your dogs, so they stay hydrated, as well as pour over the feet of your pets, if the pavement seems too warm. While hiking through Arizona, where there are sharp rocks and cactuses everywhere, paw wraps can also be helpful in keeping the feet of your dogs safe from cuts.
